Meet the PI

Cody A. Loy, Principle Investigator

Cody A. Loy is currently Ph.D. candidate in Pharmacological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, in Prof. Darci Trader’s lab. His doctoral research focuses on developing chemical biology tools to harness the proteasome and its isoforms for therapeutic and diagnostic applications. He has designed selective probes for proteasome activity, pioneered new targeted protein degradation strategies (ByeTACs), and advanced immunoproteasome-targeted prodrugs for cancer-selective therapy.

His lab will explore how conserved proteases in mitochondria and bacteria regulate protein homeostasis and cellular function. By combining chemical biology, peptidomimetic tool development, proteomics, and metabolomics, we aim to uncover the rules governing protein degradation, map key interactions, and identify vulnerabilities that can be leveraged for therapeutic innovation

Our Team

  • Dasher Loy-Johns

Dasher joined the Loy Lab in 2024 as our very first (and clearly most important) student. His research interests include the biological implications of eating treats, optimizing nap schedules, and investigating beach ecosystems (especially those involving sand digging). When not hard at work, Dasher can be found boosting lab morale and reminding everyone to take play breaks.
